Supported sources

Pre-release preview

Development documentation: the app and production API are not released.

What you can do here: check that VoidStream supports your service, and gather the details you'll be asked for.

Add each source once. VoidStream lays them all out in one guide and plays them in one player. The details always come from your provider or your own server; VoidStream never supplies them.

Before you start

  • Use a server reachable over the internet. Connections to a server on your home network are not available in this build.
  • Copy addresses as your provider sent them. VoidStream adds http:// when an address has no http:// or https:// in front.
  • Have the right to use the source. VoidStream plays only sources you are authorised to use.

Not sure what you have? Paste it

You don't need to know which kind your provider gave you. On a TV, choose Not sure? Paste on Add a source; on voidstream.tv, every form starts with Paste what your provider sent. Paste the welcome message or link, and VoidStream reads its shape:

What you pastedWhat VoidStream reads it as
A link ending in get.php, player_api.php, xmltv.php or panel_api.php with a username and passwordXtream: the server address, username and password are filled in
A channel link such as …/live/username/password/1234.tsXtream, the same way
A portal address together with a MAC address such as 00:1A:79:AB:CD:EFStalker Portal: the portal address and MAC are filled in
Any other http:// or https:// link, with an optional guide link ending in .xml or .xml.gzM3U playlist, with its guide
Text with no address in itNothing is filled in; choose the kind yourself

Reading happens on the TV or in your browser; nothing is sent to VoidStream until you choose Check and add (TV) or Verify and save (website). The filled boxes are shown with the password hidden, so you can check them before you continue. A pasted link gets http:// in front when it has no scheme, and a MAC is written as six pairs however it was typed.

Add it from your phone

Typing a long address with a remote is slow. Add a source on a TV shows a QR code and the short address voidstream.tv/add. Scan the code, or type that address into your phone's browser: after you sign in, the add-source page opens. Fill it in and save it there, and the TV says {source} added from your phone and sets the source up by itself. The phone and the TV must be signed in to the same account.

At a glance

KindWhat it isWhat you'll be asked forWhat it brings
M3UA playlist link from an IPTV providerPlaylist address; guide address (optional); what the playlist contains; a User-Agent (optional)Live channels, or films, as the playlist lists them
XtreamAn IPTV service that signs in with a usernameServer address with its port, username, passwordLive channels, films and series
Stalker PortalA portal-based IPTV service tied to a devicePortal address, MAC address, serial number, device ID, device model and firmware, as issued by your provider; guide address (optional)Live channels
PlexYour own Plex Media ServerA Plex sign-in code or a server access token, and the server addressYour libraries of films and series
JellyfinYour own Jellyfin serverServer address or name, then a Quick Connect approval or your username and passwordYour libraries of films and series

A name is optional on every kind: without one, the source is named after its server (for example line.example.tv).

M3U playlists

The playlist link your IPTV provider gave you, often ending in .m3u or .m3u8, plus an optional guide (XMLTV) link for programme listings. You also say what the playlist holds: Detect automatically, Only live channels or Only movies. Choose one of the last two only when every item in the playlist is that type; otherwise keep Detect automatically.

User-Agent and "left out"

Some providers only answer a player that names itself in a certain way. If your provider says so, open More options and type the name it gave you in User-Agent (for example VLC/3.0.20 LibVLC/3.0.20). VoidStream then sends that name with every request to the playlist, its guide, its artwork and its channels, on every TV and in every player. Leave it empty otherwise.

A playlist line can carry player settings VoidStream does not support. Such lines are left out, and the source says how many ("12 left out"). A line that only asks for the User-Agent you typed is kept. If every line is left out, the playlist cannot be added.

Xtream services

Services that sign in with a server address, username and password issued by your Xtream provider. The server address names its port when it is http:// (for example http://line.example.tv:8080); an https:// address needs none. Pasting the link your provider sent fills all three boxes. VoidStream saves these details without contacting the provider, and checks them when a TV first sets up the source.

Stalker Portal

Portal-based services. The portal address ends with portal.php or load.php. Stalker services are tied to a device, so you enter the device identity your provider issued to you: MAC address (for example 00:1A:79:12:34:56, in any of the usual ways of writing it), serial number, device ID, device model and firmware. VoidStream does not invent these values. Today VoidStream brings in a Stalker service's live channels; its films and series are not supported yet.

Plex

The libraries on your own Plex Media Server. You enter the server address and a server access token. Where Plex sign-in by code is switched on for the website, you can instead get a four-character Plex code, approve it at plex.tv/link, and pick your server from a list. VoidStream checks the server's identity before it saves anything.

Jellyfin

The libraries on your own Jellyfin server. On a TV, type your server's address, or just its name such as jellyfin.example.net. VoidStream tries https, then Jellyfin's ports 8920 and 8096, and names the source after the server (for example Aether · Jellyfin 10.10). Quick Connect then opens on that server, or you use your Jellyfin username and password instead. VoidStream signs in once to confirm the server and does not keep your password.

What happens after you add a source

Adding a source saves it to your household. Nothing downloads yet. The next time a TV opens the source, it asks which categories and libraries that TV should include, then downloads names, schedules and artwork, never video. Each TV chooses for itself. Adult categories are left out until you tick them.
