Getting started

Pre-release preview

Development documentation: the app and production API are not released.

What you can do here: follow the whole journey once, from a new account to the first channel on your TV.

VoidStream plays media only from sources you already have and are allowed to use. It supplies no channels, films or series of its own, so there is nothing to watch until you add a source.

Before you start​

  • Your source details. For each service you want to watch, have the details your provider gave you: a playlist link, a server address and sign-in, or a portal address and device details. Supported sources lists exactly what each kind needs.
  • A supported screen. See Platforms. The app has not been published in any app store yet, so today it runs only on development installs.
  • A phone or computer with a web browser. Typing addresses and passwords is easier on voidstream.tv than with a TV remote.
  • An account, or the chance to make one. During the pre-release preview, new accounts can be created only while the development sign-up is open. Accounts made now are test accounts: the email address is not verified and the account may be reset before launch.

Set up VoidStream​

  1. Create your account. Open voidstream.tv/en/sign-up and enter a Main profile name, your Email address and a password of at least 15 characters, twice. Tick the test-account box and choose Create account. You can also choose Create account on the TV's welcome screen while sign-up is open.
  2. Sign in on your TV. Open VoidStream on the TV and choose Sign in. The TV shows a 4-digit code and a QR code. On your phone, scan the QR code or open the link the TV shows, enter your email address and password, and approve the code. If you prefer, choose Use Remote on the TV and type your details with the on-screen keyboard.
  3. Name the TV. The TV asks you to Set up this device. Keep the suggested name or pick a room such as Living room, then choose Register new device.
  4. Choose who is watching. Pick your main profile on Who's watching? and choose Continue. The short tour that follows can be skipped.
  5. Add your sources. Either add them on the TV during setup with Add media source, or add them in your browser under Sources in your account on voidstream.tv, which is easier for long addresses.
  6. Choose what each TV shows. On the TV, open each source from Your sources. VoidStream checks the connection, then asks which categories and libraries this TV should include. Choose them and select Sync selected content.
  7. Wait for the first sync. The TV downloads names, schedules and logos, never video. When every source shows Ready, choose Enter VoidStream.

What you'll see​

The app opens on Home, with rows of films and series from your sources. Live TV opens the guide: channels down the side, programmes across, and a preview of the current channel at the top. Press OK once on a channel to preview it, and again to watch it full screen.

If something goes wrong​

  • The TV code expired. Codes last a few minutes and the TV replaces them on its own. Use the newest code on screen.
  • Your provider rejected the details. Check them against what your provider sent you and try again. Your provider, not VoidStream, decides whether they are valid.
  • Sign-up says accounts aren't open yet. The development sign-up is closed. It opens again with the public release.
